When coming from the north, Pigeon Forge is easy to access from I-40 by taking exit 407 from the Knoxville area and following Winnfield Dunn Parkway to the Parkway/US 441/US 321. From Gatlinburg, it’s a beautiful drive through a section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park along the Parkway/US 441 into Pigeon Forge. Traffic can be light to heavy, depending on the activities occurring during your visit. The Parkway through Pigeon Forge is three-lane going either way with ample turning lanes to allow for access to the wonderful attractions along the Parkway. With many car shows happening throughout the spring/summer season, allow time for heavier traffic and the time to view the wonderful cars you’ll be able to view as they line up along the Parkway.
Pigeon Forge has a lot to offer in places to stay, including hotels, motels and cabins with mountain views from almost any place you’d like to stay. There’s a variety of restaurants offering any kind of food you’d like, including some wonderful down home Southern offerings. The home of the world famous Dollywood, Pigeon Forge is a great family vacation destination. With a great selection of things to do with the family like go cart tracks, mini golf, dinner shows, museums, and even indoor skydiving visitors will fill their schedule quickly. With easy on and off access to the Parkway, Pigeon Forge is very easy to traverse. Traffic lights are numbered and most destinations on the Parkway give you directions according to the traffic light numbers so they are very easy to find.
As always, when visiting the Great Smoky Mountains area, be aware that even though you are in a city environment, you may see a bear. Never approach a bear. They are beautiful creatures but they are dangerous. Never feed a bear. Once bears become accustomed to being fed, they are considered dangerous and will be destroyed. Don’t be the reason to cause the death of one of these majestic creatures. Bears are fast and very strong. You can’t outrun them. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. View them from a distance.
